What better way to spend the summer months
than to go for a gallop on the beach with the wind in your hair? It makes a pleasant change from country lanes
and polluted roads where cars are constantly vying for space.
The freedom of the beach is amazing. Not only is there a lack of traffic but there
is also the possibility of seeing wildlife such as seals as well as a broad
range of birdlife.
If the idea of riding on the beach sounds
attractive here some suggestions of where to go:
1. Holy
Island, Northumberland
At low tide it is possible to cross
the beach to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
Riders can enjoy the white
sandy beaches whilst admiring the dramatic Lindisfarne Castle. There have been several sightings of seals and plenty of bird life.
2. Studland
Beach, Dorset
This stunning sandy beach in Dorset
covers over three miles of beach and is set against a backdrop of sandy
dunes. In addition to this there are
also plenty of cliff-top rides. Set
against beautiful scenery riding here is extremely enjoyable.
3. Holkham
Bay, Norfolk
With golden sands which appear to
stretch for miles, this beach is a dream for riders. The beach is uncrowded and provides access to
a wide range of birds and wildlife.
4. Druidston
Haven, Pembrokeshire
If you are looking for an unspoilt
beach then look no further. Druisdston
Haven in Pembrokeshire is
extremely beautiful and has the added bonus of being secluded. At low tide
the beach is up to a mile long.
5. Kennack
Sands, Cornwall
Kennack Sands Which has a history of
shipwrecks, is a great place for horse riders.
It is located at the end of the
Lizard Peninsula and has a golden sand beach.
Its beautiful clean water
provides the opportunity for a refreshing bathe after your ride.
6. Shoeburyness, near Southend.
The beaches here are open all year
round although during peak times there are some restrictions.
7. Filey
and Scarborough
Although there are some restrictions
in summer the sands from Filey which are over five miles and are the perfect place to go seal spotting.
Scarborough is at the other end of this beautiful
sandy stretch of beach
If you are riding on the beach be aware and
considerate of any other people and check out local restrictions. Beach riding
